Football Recap: Boulder City Piles Up the Points Against Doral Academy Red Rock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boulder City). They claimed a resounding 53-0 win over the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Boulder City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makayla Nelson, who threw for 138 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns. That's the most rushing touchdowns Nelson has posted since back in December of 2024. Noelle Payne was another key rusher, rushing for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Nelson was just one part of a punishing run game: Boulder City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 242 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Boulder City pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.2 points per game. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boulder City has already played their next contest (against Mater Academy East Las Vegas), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Doral Academy Red Rock will face off against Virgin Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Virgin Valley has five straight wins, Doral Academy Red Rock has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
