Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Decatur Red Raiders, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 63-62 to the Bearcats. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Decatur's loss came despite strong showings from Jadience Smith and Jennifer Mitchell. Smith dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Mitchell scored 16 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Carlee Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Decatur has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-13 record this season. As for Cullman, the win got them back to even at 14-14.
Decatur does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cullman, they will head out on the road to square off against Hartselle on Wednesday. Cullman will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Hartselle is ranked 33rd).
