Cheyenne Mountain is a perfect 5-0 against Fountain-Fort Carson since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks will host the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Cheyenne Mountain has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
On Saturday, Cheyenne Mountain beat Silverado 15-12.
Colton Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charlie Doyle, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Nate Glad, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
Cheyenne Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Fountain-Fort Carson was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They lost 12-1 to Pueblo County. The match marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Fountain-Fort Carson now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cheyenne Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Fountain-Fort Carson struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
