Basketball Recap: Canyon Springs Comes Up Short

If Canyon Springs was feeling good fresh off their 69-46 takedown of Southeast Career Tech last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Canyon Springs Pioneers were beaten by the Democracy Prep Agassi Campus Blue Knights 97-63 on Tuesday. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.

When it comes to explaining why Canyon Springs lost, don't look at Gregory Paige. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 11 on his way to 24 points. The dominant performance gave Paige a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Gary Reece, who posted seven points and three steals.

Canyon Springs' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-12. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Democracy Prep Agassi Campus, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Canyon Springs wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 70-61 loss against Desert Oasis on the 30th. Democracy Prep Agassi Campus has also already played their next contest, a 76-43 win against Virgin Valley on the 29th.
