The Tri-County Cavaliers will square off against the West Central Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Tri-County is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing DeMotte Christian: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Tri-County blew DeMotte Christian out of the water with a 58-18 final score. The Cavaliers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 22 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tri-County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyler Burns, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 12 points. Grayson Schneider was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.
Tri-County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, West Central hadn't done well against Rensselaer Central recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. West Central took down Rensselaer Central 72-54. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Trojans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
West Central's win came from a few key players Tri-County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bryce Nannenga, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Bishop, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and four steals.
Tri-County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for West Central, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Tri-County has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.7% of their threes per game. It's a different story for West Central, though, as they've only made 28.4% of their three-pointers this season. Given Tri-County's sizable advantage in that area, West Central will need to find a way to close that gap.
Tri-County beat West Central 46-35 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will Tri-County repeat their success, or does West Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
