Avocado - West recap October 29, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Christian Chapman and Hayden Mortimer connected against El Camino. The connection went for 78 yards, the longest such play in Avocado - West this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, La Costa Canyon beat Vista 21-7. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Carlsbad's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chapman threw for 172 and 1 touchdown and Mortimer had 98 yards receiving. On the ground Dylan Rutledge chipped in 150 yards. Rutledge helped Carlsbad's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 44 yards.
Rutledge was the best running back in the league this week. In 23 carries, he ran for 150 yards as the Lancers topped the Wildcats. Damaris Pulido Christovale also contributed to the rushing game with 55 yards on the ground.
Carlsbad's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Lancers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Chapman has thrown for 1,303 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Jordan Perez has 21 catches for 355 yards.
The top two teams in Avocado - West will face off this week when first place Oceanside takes on second place La Costa Canyon. Oceanside defeated Ramona last week, while La Costa Canyon bested the Panthers.
The Pirates took down the Bulldogs 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
