The Northwest Christian School Crusaders will square off against the Newport Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Northwest Christian School's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Kellogg as Northwest Christian School made off with a 19-0 win. Considering the Crusaders have won three games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Chase Mortlock was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Mortlock was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Northwest Christian School got a massive performance out of Benjo Roth, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Will McConnell, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Northwest Christian School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Newport made easy work of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna on Saturday and carried off a 19-2 victory. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Broncos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Like Northwest Christian School, Newport also got a great game from a two-way player: Hank Kirkwood. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Kirkwood was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Ryder Riddles was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Brody Driver was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Northwest Christian School's record is now 4-1. As for Newport, their record now sits at 2-0.
