Millbrook and Wakefield are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Millbrook is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Millbrook took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Wake Forest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Cougars on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Cougars on their field since May 5, 2023.

Connor Wright was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Millbrook got a big performance out of Jack Strom, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Strom has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Heath, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wakefield got the win against Rolesville on Tuesday by a conclusive 8-2. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Like Millbrook, Wakefield also got a great game from a two-way player: Ben Dudash. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dudash was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Tyler Rotellini tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Hunter Lentz was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Gross, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Wakefield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Wakefield is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Millbrook, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-8.
Millbrook's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wakefield, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Millbrook continue to outrun the ball?
Millbrook came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakefield when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
