Currituck County hasn't had much luck against Camden County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Currituck County was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Hertford County on Friday. Currituck County never let Hertford County get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Knights yet this season.
Julianna Evans and Riley High made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Evans pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, High pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Evans scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while High scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that High snagged this season.
In other batting news, Currituck County got a massive performance out of Kaydence Hassell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Amelia Cervantes, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3.
Currituck County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Camden County). They were the clear victor by a 17-3 margin over Pasquotank County on Friday. Considering the Bruins have won three games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Camden County let Audrey Jones and Emma Gordan run wild. Jones went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Gordan went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave Jones a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Barker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Currituck County's record is now 4-2. As for Camden County, their record is now 3-1.
Camden County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Currituck County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game.
