With a playoff game on the line, the Glenvar Highlanders rose to the challenge on Friday. They snuck past Gretna with a 38-34 victory. The win was nothing new for Glenvar as they're now sitting on five straight.
Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Melvin Wooden, who threw for 289 yards and a touchdown while completing 84% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Gunn, who picked up 188 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Glenvar has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Gretna, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
Glenvar will head out on the road to face off against Radford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Radford is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Glenvar a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. Gretna does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
