Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montbello). They strolled past the Hinkley Thunder with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 70-54. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montbello to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kian Martin, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 21 points. Those 21 points gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeveon West, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Montbello smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive matches.
Despite the defeat, Hinkley had strong showings from Malachi Holden, who went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points and five boards, and Marques Yarbough, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Sebatian Torres, who posted 11 points.
Montbello's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-14. As for Hinkley, their loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montbello will venture away from home to take on Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hinkley, they are taking a road trip to face off against Regis Groff at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
