Basketball Recap: Des Moines Christian's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Monday

Des Moines Christian lost to Winterset back in January of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Des Moines Christian Lions walked away with a 58-49 victory over the Winterset Huskies. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Huskies are ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Des Moines Christian pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Winterset, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Des Moines Christian Lions face off against the Madrid Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Madrid knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten games -- so hopefully Des Moines Christian likes a good challenge. Winterset has already played their next contest, a 65-52 defeat against Ballard on the 14th.
