Baseball Recap: Columbus Extends Winning Streak to Five

Columbus lost a heartbreaker the last time they played West Boca Raton, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. Everything went the Columbus Explorers' way against the West Boca Raton Bulls on Friday as the Columbus Explorers made off with an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Explorers, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Columbus got a great performance from Michael Say as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Say has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jose Correa was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Matthew Fernandez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Columbus hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Boca Raton struck out seven times.

The win was the fifth in a row for Columbus, bringing their record for this year to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for West Boca Raton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Columbus will take on Westminster Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Westminster Christian's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Columbus' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for West Boca Raton, they will face off against Palm Beach Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
