Basketball Recap: Bradley Vaughn's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wakulla over St. John Paul II

Wakulla played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 62-40 to the St. John Paul II Panthers. While losing is never fun, the War Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 621st, while the Panthers are ranked 247th).

Several War Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bradley Vaughn, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Vaughn is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Darien Jones was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wakulla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. John Paul II to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cruz Fontenot, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mario Forbes, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Wakulla's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for St. John Paul II, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Wakulla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-45 defeat against Port St. Joe on the 13th. As for St. John Paul II, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-37 loss against Lincoln on the 13th.
