The McClatchy Lions will challenge the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McClatchy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
McClatchy lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Monterey Trail, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Lions put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 16-1 victory on Monday. The game was the first time the Lions have beaten the Mustangs on their field since May 4, 2022.
Madelyn Ogata was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jeneyse Morales was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydilyn Rogers, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
McClatchy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monterey Trail only posted an OBP of .348.
Liberty Ranch hit Cosumnes Oaks with a six-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolfpack fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 10-9. The loss put an end to the Wolfpack's undefeated start to the season.
Madeline Graham made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Sophia Platner was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.
The win made it two in a row for McClatchy and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Cosumnes Oaks, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McClatchy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Cosumnes Oaks struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McClatchy beat Cosumnes Oaks 17-12 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolfpack turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
