Even though the Marshall Owls have not done well against the Oak Grove Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Marshall walked away with a 62-50 victory over the Panthers. That's another feather in the cap for Marshall, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Marshall was led to victory by Deacon Arends and Stephen Caviness. Arends scored 16 points along with seven assists and five steals, while Caviness almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Arends is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Brody Kueker, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Marshall's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Oak Grove, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshall's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully New Bloomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday. As for Oak Grove, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Odessa is on a six-game streak of home losses, the Panthers a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
