Baseball Recap: Challis Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Challis won the last time they faced West Jefferson and things went their way on Thursday too. The Vikings blew past the Panthers 12-2. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Garrison Applegate made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Ollar, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Roy Jones also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Challis hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Jefferson struck out 14 times.

Challis' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Jefferson, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Challis will take on Wendell at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for West Jefferson, they will face off against Salmon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Savages have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
