This season hasn't been kind to the Pinecrest Patriots, who are still winless after their sixth game. They took a 58-43 bruising from Apex on Friday. While losing is never fun, Pinecrest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 474th, while Apex is ranked 191st).
Pinecrest's loss came despite strong showings from Ava Depenbrock and Aniyah McGregor. Depenbrock scored 20 points along with 6 rebounds, while McGregor scored 8 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Depenbrock hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
It was another big night for Isabella Pease, who scored 19 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals for Apex. The team also got some help courtesy of Analiza Whittlesey, who scored 12 points.
Pinecrest has fallen quite a ways from their 15-7 record last season and are now at 0-6. As for Apex, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinecrest's road trip will continue as they head out to face Clayton at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. As for Apex, they will challenge Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Green Level focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
