Softball Recap: Holmes Wins Going Away Against Bertie

Holmes won the last time they faced Bertie and things went their way on Friday too. The Aces put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 16-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Aces, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Sarah Logan Cobb made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Cobb was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chloe Chappell was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Morgan Nixon, who earned two RBI, one run, and five stolen bases.

The victory made it two in a row for Holmes and bumps their season record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Bertie, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Holmes and Bertie could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Aces will face off against Perquimans County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (288 vs. 83). Meanwhile, Bertie (ranked 396th) will meet Bethel Christian Academy (ranked 192nd) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
