The Hermiston Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Southridge Suns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hermiston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.4 runs per game this season.
Hermiston is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Hanford on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-2. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Hermiston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karsyn Botefuhr, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Southridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pasco on Tuesday. The Suns put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 16-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Suns, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Avery Garvey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Jadyn Holdren was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Faith Hickman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs.
Southridge's record now sits at 5-2. As for Hermiston, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hermiston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .432. However, it's not like Southridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .426. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hermiston couldn't quite finish off Southridge in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
