Donna is 0-10 against Weslaco East since March of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Redskins will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
Donna is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Edcouch-Elsa. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Redskins have suffered since April 2, 2024.
Donna saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jimenez Alan, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. Ronaldo Bocanegra was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, Weslaco East waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Chiefs a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcats have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Ramirez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Eduardo Hernandez was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Solis, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.
Weslaco East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.
Weslaco East's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Donna, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Donna has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Weslaco East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Donna suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Weslaco East in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
