Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Sterne's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Sterne hadn't done well against Burton recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Sterne Dolphins came out on top in a nail-biter against the Burton Pumas, sneaking past 52-50. This was a revenge game for the Dolphins: when they faced off against the Pumas back in January, they had to take a 55-39 loss.

Andrew Jones was his usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 blocks. He is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 13 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Smith Trimble, who went 8 for 19 en route to 18 points and five rebounds.

Sterne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Sterne is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Burton, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sterne will square off against KIPP SF College Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Burton, they will take on June Jordan School of Equity at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
