The La Puente Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Workman Lobos at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Puente has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for La Puente's offense. They came up short against Ganesha on Thursday, falling 16-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Giants: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Workman, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Pomona with a sharp 18-5 win on Monday. Considering the Lobos have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Rivera and Alondra Devora made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rivera pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Devora tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. What's more, Rivera posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. At the plate, Rivera got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Devora got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Workman got a massive performance out of McKenna Weller, who went 1-for-3 with seven RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Weller is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in four or more in each of the last three games she's played. Leana Sanchez was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Workman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .757. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Workman has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for La Puente, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
La Puente suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Workman when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
