Sparrows Point completed a perfect 17-0 season with a 2-0 victory over Patterson Mill of Bel Air on Nov. 20 to win its third straight 1A state title. The Pointers are now a cumulative 47-4 over the past three championship seasons.
On Thursday, Feb. 18 the MaxPreps Travel Team visited this astonishing high school which has an enrollment of 900 students. The players and students had the chance to see the Army National Guard national ranking trophy up close during lunch and were given the opportunity to speak with Maryland Army National Guard member Staff Sergeant Billy Weber.
That night they had a community celebration to honor their 3-time girls soccer state champions. Parents and fans came together to support the head coach Joe Lambert and his team as they were awarded the prestigious Minuteman trophy. To begin the ceremony, MaxPreps representative Ray Dungee introduced the Tour of Champions to the fans and congratulated the team for its high national ranking as they finished No. 7 in the nation out of 10,000 girls soccer teams across the country.
Next, Dungee introduced SSG Weber who was also a graduate of Sparrows Point High School. SSG Weber spoke about the commitment to excellence the coaching staff has instilled in the school and the soccer team. He compared the qualities found on a championship team with those found in the Army National Guard – commitment, dedication, hard work, perseverance and more. As he handed the national ranking trophy to coach Joe Lambert and the team, the crowd cheered proudly.
Coach Lambert was thrilled and humbled to receive the award and thanked both the Army National Guard and MaxPreps for recognizing his players.
Congratulations to Coach Lambert and the Pointers on an incredible season and high national ranking!
