The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Clopton/Elsberry takes on Palmyra in the first playoff game of the year. Clopton/Elsberry is limping into the contest on a seven-game losing streak.
Clopton/Elsberry had a rough outing against Mark Twain last week, losing 59 - 14. The team got a solid performance out of sophomore Shawn Yates (he finished up with 144 yards passing and one rushing touchdown); unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win.
As for Palmyra, it was close but not close enough last game as it fell 22 - 20 to Monroe City. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Palmyra after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
After their losses, Clopton/Elsberry dropped to 2-7 and Palmyra dropped to 7-2. We'll find out on Friday which team can get past their defeat and step into the winner's circle.
