The Surry HomeSchool Runnin' Patriots will head out on the road to face off against Gospel Light Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Tuesday, Surry HomeSchool was beaten by State Line HomeSchool R 59-30. While losing is never fun, Surry HomeSchool can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 280th in North Carolina, while State Line HomeSchool R is ranked 118th in Virginia).
Meanwhile, Gospel Light Christian had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sheets Memorial Christian 59-19 on the road. Gospel Light Christian pushed the score to 39-11 by the end of the third, a deficit Sheets Memorial Christian had little chance of recovering from.
Gospel Light Christian found their leader in underclassman Brooklyn Miller, who scored 19 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Jo Church, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Surry HomeSchool and nudges their season record down to 15-9. As for Gospel Light Christian, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Surry HomeSchool beat Gospel Light Christian 55-47 in their previous matchup back in February of 2020. The rematch might be a little tougher for Surry HomeSchool since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
