Football Recap: Tahlequah Starts Season with Victory at Home

Tahlequah took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They breezed past the East Central Cardinals to the tune of 55-6. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.

Jake Girty was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in August of 2024. Synjin Sampson was another key player, throwing for 90 yards and a pair of TDs on perfect 5-for-5 passing.

Tahlequah didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Miguel Martinez and Xaxton Carshall.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tahlequah is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Sapulpa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Central, they will take on Nathan Hale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
