Fitzgerald is 2-7 against Hazel Park since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Fitzgerald is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Clawson hit Fitzgerald with a four-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans came up short against the Trojans, falling 12-2.
Thomas Baranski made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Bush, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hazel Park, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over Center Line on Wednesday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Hazel Park let Zay Justice and Austin Small run wild. Justice went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Small went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Justice has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Thomas Barkle, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Hazel Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Center Line only posted a batting average of .143.
Hazel Park's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Fitzgerald, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fitzgerald has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Hazel Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .570. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fitzgerald suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Hazel Park in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
