The Aldine Mustangs will be playing at home against the Nimitz Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Aldine has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while the Cougars will arrive with seven straight victories.
Last Friday, Aldine came up short against the Falcons and fell 53-45. While losing is never fun, Aldine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1307th, while the Falcons are ranked 440th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Melanie Umanzor, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Aniyah Bevly, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Nimitz put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 63-39 margin over Spring.
Aldine's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-27. As for Nimitz, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.
Aldine might still be hurting after the 56-33 loss they got from the Cougars in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Nimitz's Aniah Richard, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Now that Aldine knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
