For the first time this season, Yuba City will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Roseville Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Yuba City took a loss when they played away from home on September 12th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 33-14 win over River Valley. Considering the Honkers' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
It was another big night for Ryan Corum, who rushed for 214 yards and four scores while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Hank Watson, who gained 154 total yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Yuba City proved: they limited River Valley to a paltry 1.8 yards per carry. The Honkers didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged nine.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roseville). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 62-8 victory over Deer Valley. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 55-0.
Yuba City better keep an eye on D'marcis Gresham. He was instrumental in Roseville's win, rushing for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries. Colton Wolfe was another key back, rushing for 21 yards and two TDs.
Roseville's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points on average over those games. As for Yuba City, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Yuba City has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Roseville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 202 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Yuba City barely slipped by Roseville in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, winning 29-28. Do the Honkers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
