Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Blanco Panthers proved on Friday. They strolled past Nixon-Smiley with points to spare, taking the game 40-24. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Blanco.
Blanco can attribute much of their success to Isabella Mitchell, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Candice Lopez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madisen Yanes, who scored six points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmersyn Stone, who scored three points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Nixon-Smiley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-5) when they just don't pass the ball.
Blanco's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Nixon-Smiley, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-18.
