The Roosevelt Roughriders will head out on the road to face off against the Green Mountain Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Roosevelt had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They really took it to Riverdale Ridge for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-20 victory on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Roosevelt.
Roosevelt relied on the efforts of Xavier Ramirez, who rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry, and Bronco Hartson, who rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Ramirez hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for four straight games. Luc Vigil was another key contributor, rushing for 57 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Green Mountain put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 52-7 victory over Glenwood Springs. Given Green Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Glenwood Springs is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Green Mountain relied on the efforts of Nowell Dacres, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and Blake Weslin, who threw for 142 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Dalton Poulignot was in the mix too, providing Green Mountain with two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Roosevelt to 9-2 and Green Mountain to 11-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's match: Roosevelt has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 276.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Green Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 263.8 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Everything came up roses for Roosevelt against Green Mountain when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 30-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Roosevelt since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
