Mallard Creek is 1-9 against Chambers since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mallard Creek Mavericks will head out on the road to challenge the Chambers Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mallard Creek fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 59-47 victory over Hough on Thursday.
Mallard Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Langston Boyd, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rassell Young, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Chambers can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 78-35 win over West Charlotte. Given Chambers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while West Charlotte is ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jordan Patton, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Maurio Hanson II was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Mallard Creek's victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Chambers, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
Mallard Creek and Chambers were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Mallard Creek came up empty-handed after a 67-66 defeat. Thankfully for Mallard Creek, Nick Dorn (who scored 21 points along with four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
