The Red Level Tigers suffered their closest defeat since December 18, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of Carroll by a score of 83-80. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
When it comes to explaining why Red Level lost, one person who can't be blamed is Javen Poindexter. Despite the final result, he dropped a triple-double on 41 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. That was a full 51.3% of Red Level's points, marking the 19th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Lakeith Person was his usual excellent self, scoring 39 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Carroll. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Person has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Michael Culver, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Red Level dropped their record down to 11-8 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Carroll, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Red Level won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. Averaging 68.06 points so far this season, Calhoun's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so the Tigers better be ready for a challenge. As for Carroll, they will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Andalusia will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
