Los Lunas is 9-1 against Albuquerque since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Los Lunas' favor as the team sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Albuquerque has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Los Lunas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Rio Grande, who was ranked 16th at the time (Los Lunas was ranked eighth). The Tigers lost 9-3 to the Ravens on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered against the Ravens since April 21, 2022.
Allen Galaviz and Jonah Utash stepped up to the plate in a big way. Galaviz went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Utash went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque came up short against Rio Grande on Tuesday, falling 15-3.
Albuquerque saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roman Viscarra, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Abran Vigil, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Albuquerque's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Los Lunas, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 14-9.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Los Lunas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Albuquerque struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
