The Boulder Creek Jaguars will face off against the Desert Vista Thunder at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Boulder Creek 3.7, Desert Vista 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Boulder Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Liberty 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won six in a row.
Kinsey Wilcox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits.
At the plate, Lauren Grunert was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Desert Vista faced Xavier College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Thunder came up short against the Gators, falling 11-5. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Thunder, who until this matchup were averaging 2.74 runs allowed.
Jaymie Larney made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Leitgen, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Boulder Creek pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Vista, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4.
Both Boulder Creek and Desert Vista just can't seem to miss. The Jaguars have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Desert Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Boulder Creek might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Desert Vista in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
