Softball Recap: East Lake Has No Trouble Against Northeast

East Lake barely beat Northeast the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The East Lake Eagles put the hurt on the Northeast Vikings with a sharp 11-2 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Eagles have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lucy Mondok was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Clawson, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Meagan Bostak was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

East Lake hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive games.

East Lake is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. Northeast moved to 3-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

East Lake and Northeast should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. East Lake will challenge Boca Ciega at 6:00 p.m. on March 24th up 206 places (60 vs. 266). East Lake's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Northeast's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Meanwhile, Northeast (ranked 114th) will meet Hollins (ranked 307th) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. East Lake is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
