Volleyball Recap: Trevor Vander Linden Key Part of Team Effort in Cobras Win

Peoria came into Tuesday's match looking for another win against Cactus, but Vinnie Vitale wouldn't allow it. The Cobras skirted past the Panthers 3-2 for which the team can thank Vitale, who had 32 digs and three assists. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 16 or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Cactus wouldn't go down easily and took Peoria into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12.

Cactus' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trevor Vander Linden, who had 14 kills and three digs. The dominant performance also gave Vander Linden a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was JJ Sweeney, who had 18 digs.

Cactus' win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 8-16. As for Peoria, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season.

Cactus will be playing at home against Goldwater at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Cobras surely won't give up without a fight. As for Peoria, they have already played their next game, a 3-0 defeat against Crismon on the 23rd.
