AAA District 4 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Maryville extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 4 this week by beating Bearden, 21-3. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Rebels.
Farragut led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Heritage. Bryan Phillips threw for 296 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 14 yards in the win.
The Admirals' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Jackson Fain chipped in 104 yards. Jake Bruce helped Farragut's passing attack out by catching two balls for 83 yards.
Thomas Barnett was the best wideout in the league this week as Farragut beat the Mountaineers. Barnett tallied three receptions for 126 yards.
The Bulldogs' Nicky Frizen and Hunter Johnson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AAA District 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Frizen has thrown for 1115 yards this season, while Johnson, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 26 catches for 391 yards. Eddie Courtney's team's Fain leads the league in rushing yards with 526.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between West and Lenoir City. The Rebels enters the contest ranked 15th in the state, while the Panthers ranks 22nd.
Lenoir City made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 623 from 812. The advance stemmed from a 31-14 victory over Knoxville Catholic last week.
