The Hawthorne Cougars and the Lynwood Knights squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Hawthorne Cougars had to settle for second. They took a 19-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. Having soared to a lofty 44 points in the game before, Hawthorne couldn't push the score so high this time.
Obie Brown threw for 188 yards and a touchdown while completing 72% of his passes.
Alex Whitehead was his top target, picking up 53 receiving yards.
The team won by holding Hawthorne to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lynwood's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Kylan Reed and his three sacks.
Hawthorne now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Lynwood, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.
Hawthorne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lynwood will head out on the road to face off against Bell Gardens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bell Gardens is on a three-game streak of home wins, Lynwood a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
