Burkburnett is 0-4 against Graham since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Burkburnett has given up an average of 47.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Burkburnett is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 41 points back in September, they were much more limited against Jacksboro last Friday. They were beaten by the Tigers 62-13. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.
Despite the defeat, Burkburnett had strong showings from Griffen Johnston, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one touchdown, and George Moseley, who picked up 76 receiving yards and one TD. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 80 yards.
Burkburnett didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Joseph Montgomery and Sam Easter.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Graham, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They blew past Lake Worth 35-10 last Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Steers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Bullfrogs are ranked 550th).
Burkburnett better keep an eye on Jace Gill. He was instrumental in Graham's win, rushing for 70 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, while also throwing for 130 yards on 11 of 21 attempts.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Graham proved: they limited Lake Worth to a paltry 3.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least eight total tackles, Tripp Mahaney stood above the rest. He made eight total tackles and snagged an interception. Graham didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.8.
Graham now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Burkburnett, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Burkburnett was taken down by Graham 77-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, Ty Thompson (who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 72 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
