The Genesee Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Potlatch Loggers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Genesee has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Genesee is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Kendrick on Tuesday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 12-2. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.
Genesee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Holmes, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Potlatch entered their tilt with Troy on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They blew past the Trojans 10-2. The Loggers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Waylan Marshall was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Logan Carpenter, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
Potlatch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Troy only posted a batting average of .250.
Potlatch pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Genesee, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Genesee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Potlatch struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Genesee suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Potlatch in their previous meeting on Saturday. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
