Cary is 1-9 against Apex since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cary Imps will head out to take on the Apex Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Cary is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with 22 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Cary turned things around against Sanderson on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the Spartans. The Imps' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Makenzie Watkins looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That earned run was her first of the season.

On the hitting side, Catherine Baker was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniella Velazquez, who scored four runs while going 1-for-3.
Cary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sanderson only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, Apex came up short against Wakefield on Wednesday, falling 13-5.
Leah Kendall was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Blakely Sellers was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Cary's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Apex, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cary hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Apex struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cary suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Apex when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Cary avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
