The Battle Spartans waltzed into Thursday's game with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 72-59 win over Central. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Tate McCubbin, who scored 23 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Rooks, who scored 17 points.
When it comes to explaining why Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jobe Bryant. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with 3 steals. Bryant scored a full 47.5% of Central's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Caden Casey, who scored 9 points along with 4 steals.
Battle's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Battle will take on Kankakee at 10:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Kankakee's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Central, they will square off against Rockwood Summit at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
