Johnston City is a perfect 10-0 against Vienna since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Indians will square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Johnston City barely beat Murphysboro the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians blew past the Red Devils 9-2 on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Indians, who have now won five matchups in a row.
Johnston City let Zoee Cullum and Lilli Armes run wild. Cullum scored three runs while going 4-for-4, while Armes went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI Armes has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Mowery, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Johnston City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.2.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Vienna made sure to put some runs up on the board against Carrier Mills-Stonefort on Wednesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Vienna also got a great performance from Alli Vinson as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Anniston Steinmann was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Carmen Simpson also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Vienna's record now sits at 6-9. As for Johnston City, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Everything went Johnston City's way against Vienna in their previous matchup on Tuesday, as Johnston City made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
