The Veterans Memorial Patriots came tearing into Friday's game with 26 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Canyon 64-34 at home. Veterans Memorial has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 18 contests by 21 points or more this season.
Veterans Memorial got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gervai Maeweathers out in front who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin McCloud, who scored eight points along with seven assists.
Veterans Memorial pushed their record up to 34-1 with that win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Canyon, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-26.
Veterans Memorial will head out on the road to take on Boerne-Champion at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Boerne-Champion will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Veterans Memorial surely won't give up without a fight. As for Canyon, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Tivy at 6:30 p.m.
