It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Christchurch School Seahorses had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past Covenant, posting a 65-35 victory at home. Considering Christchurch School has won five games by more than 29 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Covenant's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Grant Cook, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and Jonathan Newton who rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Newton has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played.
Christchurch School pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Quantico and 1-8 Norfolk Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 27% over those games). As for Covenant, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.
Christchurch School will face off against Virginia Episcopal School at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Virginia Episcopal School will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. Covenant does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
