The Coastal Academy Stingrays will take on the Tri-City Christian Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Coastal Academy 4.1, Tri-City Christian 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Coastal Academy took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Escondido Charter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Stingrays won by a run and slipped past the Tigers 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Stingrays have posted since May 24, 2024.
Therese Frazer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Coastal Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayla Contreras, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Kaycee Pinto, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coastal Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Tri-City Christian waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Jaguars.
Marissa Chronic made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Halverson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
Coastal Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Tri-City Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Coastal Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tri-City Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Coastal Academy might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Tri-City Christian in their previous matchup on April 4th. Will the Stingrays have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
