Baseball Recap: Rocky Ford Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Rocky Ford got themselves on the board against Florence on Tuesday, but Florence never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 20-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Meloneers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Shayne Gonzales made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Fabian Ortega and Adam Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Ortega scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Martinez got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Martinez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isiah Vazquez-Gallegos, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Rocky Ford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Florence only posted an OBP of .200.

Rocky Ford's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for Florence, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Rocky Ford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-1 defeat against Centauri on the 28th. As for Florence, they will head out on the road to challenge Crowley County at 4:00 p.m. on April 2. Florence's pitchers better be ready for this one: Crowley County has averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
