The GVCS Broadfording Lions will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Patapsco Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. GVCS Broadfording is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, GVCS Broadfording beat Berkeley Springs 54-50. The win was all the more spectacular given GVCS Broadfording's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 211th in Maryland, while Berkeley Springs is ranked 86th in West Virginia).
GVCS Broadfording got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordan Shifler out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Shifler has scored at least 25% of GVCS Broadfording's points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Cartwright, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Patapsco scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past Sparrows Point 69-17 at home. That looming 69-17 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Patapsco yet this season.
GVCS Broadfording's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12. As for Patapsco, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4.
